  1. hi there...

    - i've got an asus 9480tvd (that's a geforce 4ti 4800)

    - when i try to capture i get dropped frames, roughly one per second

    - changing resolution / compression / input format makes no difference

    - running under windows xp, latest drivers including wdm 1.22 for capturing

    - machine is an asus cuv4x p3-800 512mb ram 7200 tpm hdd

    - i have tried two other geforce4 cards that both showed the same problem

    - before i used an asus 6800 (geforce 256) under windows 98 on the same machine that gave me no problems at all

    any suggestion is welcome...

  3. do you have an onboard audio chip?
i had the same problem with an onboard chip,
so i just pluged in my old creative vibra soundcard and the problem
    went away.
i dont know if it will help in your case, but its worth a try.
HELL AINT A BAD PLACE TO BE

I suggest you work your way through this:

    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/81808.php

guide. Even though it is labeled for ATI cards, most of it applies to capture cards, "in general". There is very little in it that is "ATI specific" except step 14 (so, ignore step 14.)

  5. checked it, mmm

some additional info: i first tried it with the pci cards in different slots than they are now, can't recall the irq's at that time, but the problem was there

currently these cards all hog the irq 9, but the behaviour is exactly the same as with the cards in the old position

today, i tried three different geforce 4 4800 (2x asus 1x msi) in the shop that sold me the card in their mainboard (something totally different from mine)... all showed the same problem

also, i checked it using the 'test' option in virtual dub, low res uncompressed no audio, even tried different framerates...

i am sincerely beginning to doubt the geforce 4 4800 series...

  6. I haven't had any problems like that with the Ti4200 from Gainward, but I don't know the field order the card captures in.

I don't know the exact problem, but are you running any other background programs? Are the cards in the PCI slots necessary? I don't have any PCI cards since I my motherboard has onboard audio and LAN. Have you defragged your hard drive recently?

Some of those items could play a factor.

    Mythos

  7. tried different os's etc. i am seriously suspecting the hardware design, i haven't heard of anybody yet capturing with a 4800... this is scary, i guess i'll take it back to the shop and change it for a 4200... is there much speed difference?
