ok...ive been burning vcd's and svcd's for a while so im looking to improve....as of now im trying to burn vcds of a popular television show from DVD.
i want to put like 4 episodes per disc...but i want to be able to skip through to the next episode as if it was a chapter on a dvd
i read through the author section and i see that there are ways to create menus on the vcd. I dont see anything about making chapters though.
am i blind? can someone help me with programs/techniques/guides anything that will let me do this

The menu(s) you create (I'm using Nero) are in affect the chapters; however, were the menu(s) are present come into question. I am unable to display the menu(s) on anything but PowerDVD. That is: My stand alone DVD player, nor any other VCD player that I have will show them.
My Aiwa XD-DV370 simply by-passes the menu(s), while MS media player, I-On VCD player, and STHSVCD will all give errors if Auto-started. They will however, play the individual DAT files. -
There is a whole section on creating menus and chapters under the HOW TO AUTHOR section.

If each eps is it's own MPEG then just hitting << >> on the remote will take you to the next one. Normally when people say chapters they are referring to 'within the same MPEG.' There are a lot of ways to do this.
I'd recommend TSCV, which is a GUI for VCDImager (www.ttool.org) this will allow you to make seamless chaters (ok entry points) for each MPEG file, and menus (still or motion menus). It's still beta, but if you read the online guides (and maybe the forum at the site) it's pretty easy to figure out/use. -
i downloaded that TSCV and the VCDImager but im unable to run them right now...i am gettin an error sayin that i need to find the path to the imager when i open tscv....THIS is AFTER i put them in the same directory?
any clue?

Click on the settings tab in TSCV, at the bottom you have to enter the paths to TMPGenc and VCDImager. Also make sure you select VCD/SVCD, NTSC/PAL and enter the correct frame rate (29.97fps for NTSC and 25fps for PAL). To make VCD/MPEG bins you'll also need to copy the CDI dir files into the TSCV dir.
You can d/load them or copy them from your NERO dir. -
They're in the same directory but did you have TSCV point to the proper files (down on the bottom of the the settings tab)
-
It seems that TSCV doesn't allow you to do VCD (or xVCD) - The option is greyed out...
Any ideas ???

TSCV will do VCD but it needs the CDI files. Either d/load them of if you have installed Nero, copy them from your Nero dir (just copy the CDI dir from nero to TSCV).

any clue...why doesnt TSCV recognize my .mpg files....they are mpg 1 created with smart ripper...dvd2avi and tmpgenc....being that TSCD uses tmpgenc...i would imagine that it would recognize files created with the templates supplied with the program
i copied that shit from the nero folder and the vcd box is now available....
now what?
i just want to burn chapters in the vcd....this is gettin annoying..haha
let me know
thanks for the replies

i've encoded many vcd's of television shows with entrypoints at the beginning of each episodes. I also use TSCV to input the entrypoints, but i manually create my own still menus as i find TSCV still kinda buggy at that. But thats out of the point. If all you want are "chapters," just set up the settings in TSCV. select VCD, PAL/NTSC (whichever ur mpg is), input the framerate in the box (25 or 29,97). The bottom part are self-explanatory. Check the 3 boxes (although i usually only have one checked cuz i don't use the media player for inserting chapters plus I don't use VFAPI for menu creation). now go to the MENU tab and add your mpg. double click on the mpg and it will bring u to the CHAPTERS tab for you to define where your chapters are. At this point, I usually open the mpg in windows media player and find the exact time (i.e. 24:54) where the first episode ends and transits to the next. Just put the time down in the CHAPTERS tab and press enter. There, you just defined ur first "chapter" (entrypoint). Now do that for all the episodes in your mpg. After you're done, you're basically set. so click on create bin/cue on the bottom. after its done, use a burning software to burn the cue file. I use FireBurner to burn it. Nero usually screws up burning cue files for me. It works for some ppl, but not me. You can find a more detailed guide at http://www.ttool.org with pictorials to follow too.
Let us know if u still need help. -
THANK YOU....its about time someone just laid it out....it sooooo damn easy....i dont want all that menu shit....just the chapters...i cant believe it was that easy....thanks for breakin it down...
