With all of the excitement about the pending release of DVD2One and all, lol
That said, we have kicked, screamed fought and fought with DiscoPlus to fix what could be fixed, add what could be added, and admitted defeat where we could not prevail.
So what's new then?
- -the basic engine is fully integrated into D+ and uses whatever output options you'd like. Disks will play, or you can make DVD Folders.
-several annoying little internal bugs were squashed.
-Even better, but still imperfect subtitle support.
-Title preview: Actually look at the DVD video to be sure the title you wish to convert is correct.
-Imports Chapters from the DVD. Yep, D+ will in fact use the chapter marks from the DVD if you'd like. If your DVD has to be made into (gasp!) 2 Disks, the marks are renumbered to properly match Disk 2's new running time.
-DVD Folder input: The basic engine will take a dropped DVD Folder structure
We believe this should be released by the end of this week as the mahor problem we were having has been addressed.
There are still some DVDs D+ doesn't like, and there are some DVD's that the Plus engine has problems with.

Well, I care...
Thanks for all the hard work!!! I'm looking forward to the new release.
I'll probably take a look at DVD2ONE, but chances are I will go for quality with split DVDs. It wasn't that long ago that we videophiles accepted a split with 12" Laserdiscs that had to be turned over mid-movie... And at less than $1 per DVD-R, why not go for quality?!
When you can get around to it... Since the split comes at random, it would be nice to have the optional ability to set an "overlap" between disk 1 and 2. -
Cool,
I like D+, and yes, disc are becoming inexpensive.
3 cheers for D+ team!

OF COURSE we care!! DVD2one is a totally different app with which to backup not so important movies in a QUITE GOOD quality. Disco+ is for backing up the really important movies in ORIGINAL quality. And it works just great 99% of the time!

Yes...I just ran DVD2One for the first time.
We'll be getting D+ ship-shape. At first, I was worried that DVD2One would render D+ "irrelevant" (and I guess in some folks' minds, it will be) but after seeing what it did to a 5.5GB DVD I fed it, I think we'll keep plugging away.
I'm sure someone out there will cry "foul" or whatever, but I gotta tell ya...The macroblocks fast motion issues I saw were *really* a matter of concern.
Wow. I mean it will in fact get your DVD down to one disk, but the price seems kinda high to me.
To that end, after we release 1.1 (that is the official version number of what is being tested now) I'm going to go ahead with the re-tool methodology I had in mind to both speed and definatively fix the last couple of problems in D+.
The two programs (D+ and DVD2One) *definatly* cater to different markets.
Archivists will most certainly prefer D+ output.
Thanks for keeping us on point,

D+ is my favorite and most used app. Can't wait for the update. Any chance the first disk can be 4.3Gb all the time?

The big push for me for the next version will be improving the speed. The firstgen superdrives are really slow, so I might just go ahead and impliment an across-the-board "DVD Folders" methodology.
The problem with *that* is our userbase is not a big 'DVD-rip' scene group (believe it or not) and this will only add a level of complexity for them that I don't want to deal with.
To get back to your question lol...In "Main Feature Mode" the DVD's would be at the limit for 1 DVD-R because it would be completly automatic.

yes it would, but its more tricky then it looks as most stuff *expects* DVD's to be encrypted and wants to talk to the hardware.
As it stands, the basic engine (old DiscomVOBulator logic) works with DVD Folders, but we are going to test it out a bit more to be 100% sure its doing what it should wrt the chapters logic.
Doing this with the plus engine is a lot more tricky, as it seems the most popular tool for Mac Users to generate these dvd folders may not actually do it correctly. I will have to have someone doulble check this for me.
I know in its non-clone modes the output is not dvd compliant at all, but for some inexplicable reason is named *.VOB anyway, just to complicate matters

Woooohooooo, Christmas in the middle of April? Thanks for all the hard work, and I, for one, will definitely still be using D+ long after DVD2One is released. Adding multiple title support for those dvds with several TV series episodes in different titles would be the final addition to make this perfect (along with fixed sub color in some cases). Hip hip hip . . .
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté." -
I am getting clicking fatigue checking for the update. Any kind of chaptering on the the 2nd disc would be a welcome sight as I have been unable to fast foward or time search to where I left off in a movie. Of course the wife starts making fun of me with comments like (wake me when we get to the place where.....".

a question about D+
you mention that you should :
"Download the file libdvdcss-1.2.5.tar.gz and copy the *uncompressed* archive (tar.gz file) to your Home Folder."
does that mean i expand the file with stuffit and put the resulting file in my home directory or put the file as is into the home directory.

No it seems to expand itself when you use the program for the first time. I find this program to be 10X faster when I use it with Toast DVD images, but that may explain why I am still having some minor difficulties with chaptering, ect. It's almost there. Just hope problems/bugs aren't forsaken for new feature additions.

Not sure if the problem is on my end or not, but when I follow the recently posted download link for the new Disco+ *in IE5* I get a broken 47kB file rather than the 2MB file indicated. Netscape seems to download the file just fine...
-
I also had the same problem, but I was able to download it with IE using the "mirror" site.
