I'm a newbie so take it easy with the language.
I am trying to make a VCD out of a .avi file.
I use WinOnCd 3.8.
I choose VCD 2.0, when the encoder starts i should see the pic while I'ts encoding, but i don't. The movie works fine in media player and the quality is ok.
The funny thing is that out of seven .avi files, one is working fine to encode and burn (If knew how to split it into two!!).
It suddenly hit me that the file that is working, is the only one that is in one piece, could that be the problem???.

Give TMPGEnc a chance. http://www.vcdhelp.com/tmpgenc.htm
If you still prefer to cut a MPEG, use bbMPEG. http://www.vcdhelp.com/bbmpegedit.htm -
Downloaded the TMPGEnc and the DIVx codec. Niether is possible. Not even the uncut movie
"can not open or unsupported."

Nope, that's not the problem. You have to install the following codecs (DIVX and AVI). If you've already done this, then Use Nero burning software instead of WinonCD. Nero is one of the best software when it comes in making VCD/SVCD, and use TMPGEnc. It's one of the most easiest to use and with good quality result. You can Download TMPGEnc at http://go.to/vcdgalaxy they have the full version of TMPGEnc, and for Nero, give me a http:// address where I can upload the file for you or you can download the demo version at http://www.nero.com

Actually Nero is not a good (S)VCD authoring tool. Every TMPG version is a "full" version, because it is still in development.
Concerning the "can not open" problem, downlowd TMPG's VFP plugin as well. Extract it to the same directory, where you extracted TMPG. Run TMPGEnc_vfp_install.bat.
Start TMPG, select options, check TMPGEncVFP is registered to VFAPI.
Install the codec, that was used to compress the AVI.
If the audio track of the AVI is compressed, demultiplex with VirtualDub and encode Video and Audio seperatly. Mux afterwards with bbMPEG.
