  2. I'm have the same problem trying to create an
    XVCD with (3) mpgs.

The total filesize in window explorer is 738Mb which
    is below the 750Mb limit of a 74min cd-r.

Nero 5.0.4.4 will burn those files with no problem,
but 5.5.2.4 shows the files as being over 860Mb when
I drag them into the track window.

Also, even if I un-check the Make Compliant VCD, the current version of nero will still go thru the process of checking the file for compliance. The old version would
just add the file without checking.

Somewhere there is a bug in nero.

I also have the same problem.

I have 2 XVCDs.. one uses Sefy's SeVCD template to fit the movie onto one CD. File size comes out around 760MB and Nero burns this to 80min media OK.

The second XVCD which is standard VCD but with a 2000kbps CBR bitrate produces half the movie at a file size of 753MB. When I drag this over into the window in Nero, it checks the mpeg and then claims the file size is over 850MB.

The time indicator also indicates the file to be over 90min long.

Is this a problem with the newer Nero releases? I have checked the forums and fail to believe this problem hasn't been seen or answered before (if it has been present in all past Nero versions)

I'll try converting this file to a VCD outside of Nero and then burning it as an image... I'll post back my results later.

    Cracked it.

When you use the MPEG Tools for anything (merge/cut etc.) you must select Compliant VCD from the system drop down. Don't stick with the MPEG-1 default.

This ensures that your resulting mpegs are recognised by Nero at the correct size to burn to CD.

doesn't it depend on the lenght of the movie than on the size of the file?

Maharet, when burning VCDs (like we do here) you are right in saying that it depends on the length of the movie, not the file size. But we don't just burn STANDARD vcds, we do things like increase resolutions or bitrates.

This creates instandard VCDs (XVCD) which contain more (or less!) information and data per frame than standard VCDs. So while a standard VCD (1150kbps) would allow 74min/80min on a CD, an XVCD running at 2000kbps would only allow about 45mins of this video on a CD.

When using XVCD, it is a lot easier to work out what fits on what CD by using file sizes. As VCDs write in Mode2 (no error protection) we can use the extra space which error protection takes up to add more movie to our cd. As a guide, a 74min CD can take 740MB and an 80min CD takes about 800MB of video.

    Hope this helps
