This might sound like a stupid question BUT can anybody please explain the whole Gen 1, 2, 3 thing I mean will I notice the difference between a Gen 1 disk and a Gen 2 disk?
I have seen some very very cheap Gen 3 media but obviously I don't want to waste my money so I thought I would ask the experts out there.
    Thanks in Advance

If I understand correctly this answer varies from media to media. I know that for some a Gen1 is the old DVDR standard, a Gen2 is a single speed modern standard, a gen2 is a 2x and a gen3 is a 4x. But this is not always the case it seems as I've seen some manufactuers selling low quality 1x media at gen3 or 4 media. The long and the short is its not really something to worry about and makes no difference that I've ever found.
