After posting on a couple of dvd forums about a decent dvd rom drive thats good at reading burned dvd-r`s there were 2 makes of drive that kept coming up time and time again .These were the Lite-on 163 and 166 and the Toshiba SDM1612(i think) .Can anybody help me decide which one to buy , all im looking for is the drive with the best compatibility rate for reading burned dvd-r`s (mainly datawrite & datasafe discs).Many thanks to all who replied , Steve , Plymouth UK

You'll probably get al ot of opinion posts here but I use lite-On and nlove it.

I got LG's GDR-8161B, it supports DVD-R as you specified:

and I'm very happy with it... ripping speeds around 7.5x.....
