  1. Hi,
If hard drive space is not a problem
Time consuming is not a problem ( I am very a patient person)
Computer speed is not a problem

Which will do the best to capture video from any source such as VCR, TV, Satellite, Camera

    Software encoder or hardware encoder.
I know that to get the absolute best result is to RE ENCODE it and which one will yield the best
    1. Capture in software and re-encode
    2. capture by hardware and re - encode

Anyone here is an expert, I need your inputs
    thanks a million

I have a Sony GV-D800 and I record to D8 tape and then stream the DV thru firewire to AVI on HD.

it was about $800 and has Firewire I/O; Composite I/O; and S-Video I/O.

I cap from everything with it and the results when the AVIs are converted to MPEG2 and burned to DVD are spectacular, and the nice thing is that the method by definition creates an external backup (keep the tape until you are sure you are done)

    it also has pass-through.
