  1. I have several mpeg1 which i intend to join and make a VCD with, how do I replace the music with my own tracks and which format do I use?

I have already converted the files from wmv to mpeg so I don't want to encode again and loose even more quality.

Also is there a freeware audio tool where i can cut the audiofiles and gradually tone down the volume?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. First take your mpeg and seperate the audio from the video (de-multiplex). Use TmpGenc mpeg-tools to do this. File->mpeg tools, simple de-multiplex tab. You will end up with a .m1v file (video) and a .mp2 file (audio). In your case you can throw away the .mp2 file.

Now your audio. To edit and otherwise manipulate your audio I would suggest goldwave (www.goldwave.com). Once you have a .wav file, at the right sample rate (44.1Khz for VCD) and the same length as the video it can be encoded to .mp2 format. To do this we can use TmpGenc again.

Start Tmpgenc, cancel wizard. Select your wav file as audio source (no video source) and select the radio button to the right for audio only. Now click settings and select the bitrate (224 should be fine, higher if you want) and ensure the sample rate is set correctly (44.1khz). Close this dialog with OK and ensure you have an output file name set before clicking start. This will leave you with an mp2 file.

Now we have to add the .m1v file from the 1st part to the .mp2 file from the last step. TmpGenc again. File->mpeg tools, simple multiplex. .m1v file as video source, .mp2 file as audio source and set an output .mpg file as the destination. Set the dropdown list at the top to mpeg-1 VCD and click run. When it has finished you should have a playable VCD ready mpeg with your new audio.

    Hope this helps.
