Premiere! Premiere! Premiere! Best editing software out there. Covers a lot of things, simple basics...
-
Premiere has better features for editors but is broken
This is...the software has many bugs and often doesn't render what it shows you...simple enuff but no cigar for premiere
Vegas is set up for AUDIO first and picture last...and it shows..
but this program works, reliably..If you can figure out where your ins and outs are...this works great compared with Premiere -
vegas smokes premiere in so many ways its not even funny ..
premiere has only about 1/3 the features that vegas 4 has ...
and though true that vegas is a great multitrack audio editor - the video support is prime and superb .. awesome ..
I use it pretty well every day and I have a AVID DS system i could use instead .
premiere was the best basic editor around for a long time and what many people learned on , and it is a good package. but as many reviews and editors have written - its time has come and gone. -
Hi.
I like premiere more than Vegas.
The first is Premiere has better encoder modul (Mainconcept 1.2, Vegas has 1.0 only), and you will have more plug-ins for Premiere than Vegas. With Vegas you have plug-ins from Sonicfoundry family and Spymaster, but Premiere has more, ex Ligos, CCE, or Pinnacle HFX Gold for effect. And last, Premiere convert to Mpeg 1,2 better and faster then Vegas, also it support hardware more than Vegas. -

Vegas mixes in full 5:1 (and encodes to ac3) is another nice feature (along with ASIO driver support). -
Premiere makes errors.. I could go on about how many times the output of Premiere has been compromised or doesn't match what you put in....Not so VEGAS is repeatable and steady.. What good are all those plug-ins...ok I'll agree Premiere has more--if those very plugins crash the appliction.. (i remember trying to use hollywood efx within premiere...nightmare!)..
haven't used 4 but experience the opposite of the previos post..THAT Is to say my VEGAS encodes much faster than the supposed higher version mainconceptencoder in premiere.(As much as an hour or two less in VEGAS's version of the encoder for long DVD backup re-encodes)
Finally ..whith all these new formats out there , I get so tired of "MAINTAINASPECT" in premiere..while VEGAS maintains the aspect of imported artwork by default! -
But both blow in the simplicity to do things depratment. I only want to cap some vids, edit the commercials and then burn them to disk. I don't need menus (moveable or otherwise) or a lot of fancy plug-ins. I also don't want to have to go back to College to learn how to do simple stuff, which is about what you need for both Vegas and Premiere...

With Premier you get DVDit!
no ac3 support.
Vegas gives you DVDArchitect
Anything called Premier, costs $500 +, and requires plugins to do most advanced/fancy things isn't all that premier. Add in the system resource requirements, learning curve and general instability
I was a huge Premier 5 (realtime) fan. But only because it came bundled with my capture card. Upgraded to 6.5
Then tried Vegas 4, with Sound Forge, Cd Architect, and DVD Architect. One of the best bundles I've ever owned, and actually feel as though I got my monies worth.
After using Premiere for 3 or more years, then switching to Vegas 4, I was amazed at how easy advanced video editing can be.
Of course Vegas is missing the real time effects, but with todays CPUs that isn't a big problem. -
I prefer Premiere for one simple reason - easy of editing specific cuts.
The razor edit feature and timeline layout (w/video frame displayed in
preview window) is far easier, for me at least to edit quickly. It's just
more intuitive.
I will say vegas has great features, and I use it for other tasks, but when
I need to do precise cuts, adobe just works better for me.
I do prefer vegas 4.0's mpeg-2 renderer to adobe's.

Hi.
I agree that, Vegas 4 is very good. There are so many other softwares can be a plug-in for Premiere. I'm a fan of CCE, now i'm using CCE plug-in for Premiere, and it convert so faster than Vegas. 45min DV, I converted with Premiere&CCE plug-in for only 30min, but Vegas took an hour. Time is important. -
I have Premiere 6.5 and Vegas 4.0 and only use Premiere for scrolling credits now.
After comparing them side by side on a project using the most common video enhancements and features Vegas 4.0 stomps Premiere into the ground without so much as a huff.

I've used both for hobby and now school.
Premiere 6 has had me cursing up one side and down the next while trying to learn it.
Vegas 3 is fun! It's fast, it's friendly, it does what I want without any grief. The real time preview in Vegas saves so much time it isn't funny. The click and drag opacity sliders, auto crossfades.... no contest.
And I've seen Premiere 6.5's real time preview... bah! 6.5 is Adobe's lame attempt to catch up with Vegas. Now that Vegas 4 is here.... eh, why bother with even comparing.
Uhmmm... let's see... did I mention that I like Vegas Video?
