I am using the Hauppauge 250 to convert my VHS tapes to MPEG2 and then burning onto DVD.
When the Hauppauge card is displaying television using WINTV2000 all of my channels are in stereo. When I put a tape into my VCR and play it to capture the video it only shows up as MONO.
I have a custom setting for capture - 5000 Kbits/sec CBR and audio at 224 Kbits/sec, set on MONO. I decided not to capture in stereo because the Hauppauge card reported the stream from the video tape was in MONO (also it's connected thru a coaxial cable, not RCA stereo jacks). What is the correct setting to use with this card?
Also - I believe that my Cyberhome 402 has a 96 KHz DAC. Is 224 Kbits/sec overkill for the audio capture? As long as the sampling rate of the audio is set greater than the DAC ability of the DVD player the audio signal should be recovered exactly. I think the 384 setting is overkill and I intend to keep my audio capture at 224. Please let me know if there is any advantage to capturing in Stereo when the card always says there is only a MONO input stream.
