can't encode video capture

after capturing from my hi8 camcorder . i want to edit using effects in ulead media pro. but i cant open the file to encode in TMPGEnc as the quality seems better. what can i do

What type video file is it, what version of TMPGEnc do you run, and do you get any error(s)?

the file i capture is avi from my 2000xp tuner card, which i then open in media pro 6 to edit with transitions. but i cant encode with TMPEnc v2.510
when i save the file in media pro TMPEnc does not reconize. i could encode with media pro 6 but the quality is not as good

also when capturing how do you get one mpeg file from all the clips. when i go to create movie menu they are all listed like chapters. i just want one mpeg file so i can put several short movies on to one cd
