I'm creating VCD's from DIVX and XVID. I do this using virtual dub and tmpgenc. First I strip the audio using virtualdub, then I use virtualdub as my frameserver for subs and tmpgenc to create the MPEG file. I've done this a million times already and used tmpgenc, toolame, scmpx & bsweet as audio plugins for tmpgenc.
The output is just fine on my pc, but for some reason when playing it on my TV with my DVD player (JVC XV-E100SL). The audio sometimes is a little ahead of the video. This stays like that for a minute or so and the goes back to being in sync. Then 20 min later the same happens again.
I've tried using other CD-R and every single step I could think of and find on the web.
I did notice that this mostly happens with MPEG’s, which I had to split because they were to large to fit on one disc. I looked for other tools then TMPGenc to split the MPEG files but couldn't find any.
This is really mindbraking and was wondering if any of you have experienced the same and or have any suggestions on how to prevent this from happening. Or could this be due to my DVD player??
Any help is more than welcome………………..THANKS

I assume the MPEG on your PC works fine (..?). I've had good luck with Ulead DVD Factory when burning DVDs or VCDs. If you don't have access to that, you could always try Movie Maker from Micro$oft. Get version 2 as that is more advance than what came with XP. I'm not sure if you can get it as a standalone download from M$. Worth trying it, it's not bad for a freebie.
Good luck friend.Indy

Thanks for the quick reply!!
Yes the MPEG playes just fine on my PC. WHat I forgot to mention is that I use VCDeasy to burn my discs.
I'll try some other authoring software and see what happens.
Thanks again. -
PS. I burn using VCDeasy with 8x. I read that 4x is the max. Can this prevent my problem from happening???????

I had the same problem.
The sollution to it? Here it goes, simple - decode/encode WHOLE file without splitting it to the last stage = MPG file, then split it into pieces and burn.
DO NOT split the file till you get FINAL MPG file!!!! -
Triple check you are using the right template - the symptoms you describe sometimes happend when the bitrates are out of spec (usually too high) and the player tries to catch up every so often. Probably not the final culprit but something to check.
Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin' -
Dubber,
Since I add subs, I create the entire MPEG and then split it using TMPGEnc MPEG TOOLS.
I also dubblechecked my fps, which is 23.... which is NTSCFILM..............right???????
Thanks all!!
I'll keep you posted if I ever get to fix my problem.

All,
I managed to fix my problem. When using NERO instead of VCDEasy and setting Direct Show to prio 2 in TMPGEnc, I nolonger have the out of sync problem
