  1. Neither will RealProducer, or any software that's supposed to capture from the video card other than the software that came with it. A way to get any program to recognize it would be great, but right now I'd really just appreciate it if I could get VirtualDub to work.

VirtualDub requires WFW drivers. ATI only supplies WDM drivers. Try downloading and installing the ATI WFW wrapper from:

    http://shopgeo.virtualave.net/wrapper.zip

That usually gets virtualDub going with ATI cards.

Not on my Win 98SE system. I can get Video Studio 6, Video Capturix and other programs with pull-down capture menu to work. VDub seriously needs a rewrite to bring it into the 21st Century...

  4. Thanks, hwoodwar, I'll try that. But like oldfart13, my OS is Windows 98 SE, so I don't know if it'll work. I'll give it a try, though.[/b]

Question: I have an AIW 7500 w/ WinXP and VDub recognizes my AIW and lets me capture just fine using the "ATI Rage Theater Video Capture" device (only device present at the moment). What does this WFW driver do differently?

I will note that although it worked "just fine" it did drop a ton of frames on my old 1700+ box w/ 512 RAM & IDE RAID (with all background apps OFF). I just upgraded to a 2100+ on an nForce2 board (dual-channel DDR), so I'm hoping that will help. Think maybe these WFW drivers would help, too?

    Thanks, Matt

P.S. -- I just went to install the wrapper provided by the above link. Turns out I already have the wrapper files installed. Hmm... Also, the ones I had were "newer" than the ones attempting to replace them. I said "no thanks." Any comments?

You are starting your ATI capture program, closing it and then trying to capture with VDub, aren't you?
I have to (although it might not be the case for every ATI owner).
    Can't hurt to try.

Vdub use VFW drivers. Which is used by WIN 98 and ME. W2K and XP uses
WDM drivers. So to use Vdub in W2K and XP you need to use the WDM VFW Wrapper.
May the force be with you.

Nope. I just open VDub and it works. But I think it's because I installed the wrapper a long time ago and just forgot about it.

My upgraded computer (2100+) captures just fine now, but it still drops a frame or two here and there. It seems as though I shouldn't be dropping any, though. It doesn't matter to me now, though. It's working good enough for me!
