what are the limitations on a 5400rpm drive i plan on using the huffyuv codec in virtual dub do i need to worry about my drive being too slow?
Whats probably the max frame size?
Audio bitrate?

Try it out - if you set the frame rate or res too high it might not have enough speed to store the video without frame drops. Each computer is dufferent. If you had a p2-500 I'd worry. P4 2.8 is plenty fast for most things.

I capture to a 5400 rpm drive in a USB2 housing, full D1 - no problems with either Picvideo or Huffy.

I've captured to two 40gb 5400rpm in a NTFS stripe drive with two 40gb 7200rpm drives and have had no problems. I even tried one of the 5400rpms by itself and could not see a diffrence with the 7200's.

Try it and see if you drop frames. An alternative is MJPEG. 'Nearly as Good' and a lot smaller files. I get roughly 1/2 the file size for huffyuv. and at a 90% rating, I can't really tell on a TV capture. S-Video from a VCR/DVD player I can tell in the raw, but after processing I can't really see the difference 10 feet away on my TV.
