Well, here there are only 2 high speed providers. DSL, which seems to never be availble, no matter where you live, and cable, limited to 3gigs per month, then like 10$ per extra gig. Monthly cost is like 60$ a month right now, and speeds are ridiculously slow. I'm talking 30k/s downstream MAX, on a good day, quiet hours, and from a fast server. So bad that I went back to 56k... 9.95$ a month, and it's almost as fast as cable, sick eh?
Stuff is ridiculously expensive here in canada, that is way true. That is also why I do mail order from the US and still save hundreds of dollars, even after paying a LOT for shipping, and more in customs clearance than tax... I'll buy in canada the day we get prices that aren't this ridiculous, sorry.
BJ_M: tu parles francais aussi??

Hmmm. Ok, we'll pretend you don't speak french :P
There can be many providers in some cities... But we don't all live in say, ottawa or montreal. I live in a capital, and there's only 2 high speed ISP's here, one isn't available basically, and the other one stinks. Yay again... -
where do you live crahak?
BJ_M it's interresting that you say you need to speak french to get service with aei i've had the opposite experience... and that's in montreal
En passant, moi non plus je ne parle pas francais. -

ROGERS will be doing caps within the next few months for sure. they aren't sure what the caps will be but last I've heard they were thinking of 8 gigs / month (not sure if that's synchronous with uploads or not). and the freedom of speech thing? waht does that have to do with bandwidth caps? a ton of u.s. isps are also moving forward with the bandwidth capping as well.
as for the cdn levy on CD media, it's gonna suck, howver here in toronto there are a TON of stores selling cheap CDR media, and I'm sure some of them will find ways around the levyI sure hope they do at least, since I enjoy payin $17 cdn + tax for a 50 cd spindle of good 48x 700meg cds.

Okay, I'm off the soapbox. Next...Never discourage anyone...who continually makes progress, no matter how slow.
