Panasonic A115 won't play memorex cd-rw or cd-r

I used TMPGEnc to convert a .wmv to a mpeg (vcd) on a memorex cd-rw and cd-r. My panasonic dvd player won't read either one. I looked on the web page for support for my player and I saw a memorex cd-rw that worked. Any ideas on why mine won't?

Is there a better way to get video from my Sony TRV-730 to cd-r or cd-rw using thier iLink wire than just using movie maker and then encoding/decoding?
