  1. Hi,

I have a Pioneer A04 in an outside firewall box which I've been using to burn both ripped DVD's and DVD's I've created using my Sony Digital8.
I burned Fuji DVD-R that I bought at BJ's. All of the DVD-Rs I created played fine in my old Panasonic RV30 (which isn't supposed to play DVD-R) and whatever players my son uses at college.

Recently I bought a 50 pack of Pioneer DVD-R. I had used the samples that came with the player and thought they would be compatible. Well my Panasonic RV30 won't play them without a multitude of skips and pixellation and my son has reported some problems, though I'm not sure if it's to the same extent. I use SpruceUp to author and Prassi to burn the DVDs (I always burn at 1x).

There is no real problem with the burned Pioneer disks because they play fine in a newer player that reads DVD-R. I just wonder if the Fuji DVD-R is generally more compatible than the Pioneer DVD-R. I would rather use a DVD-R that has a higher possibility of compatibility - even if it's played in an older set. At this point I can either buy a new set player that will play the Pioneer DVD-r, but maybe I'd be better off trying to unload the Pioneer DVDs on ebay and sticking with the Fuji, since the Fuji is seems to be more friendly.

    Any comments or suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Deb

  2. I know for a fact that some Pioneer dvd-r's do have compatibility problems not just with players but with dvd-r burners as well. I'm not sure of the exact model# but when I got my Sony DRU-500A burner there was a note from Pioneer in there stating that 2 styles of there dvd-r's were currently incompatible with the burner - I've used media from DVD-Pro (got on sale for .69 each) and it's worked on every player I've come across so far.

  3. Thanks Trancer70, I'm not surprised by what you write. At first I thought there was something wrong with my DVD writer, so I suppose I'm relieved it's not that.

Thanks for the reply - I appreciate the feedback.
