Nero 5.5.4.0 demo detects my 5.0.4.6 OEM and installs successfully, without the 30 day limit for the demo.
However, the 5.5.4.0 remains limited to the specific CDRW burner it was bundled with.
Now Nero is saying I need to pay for a full license!
I have already paid for the 5.0.4.6 OEM version bundled.
Their website states any update within the 5.0 version is free.
>>>Is this reasonable for Nero to charge for a license for 5.5.4.0, given I already paid for the 5.0.4.6 OEM software?
Furthermore, Nero 5.5.4.0 warns during install that it will conflict with Direct CD. Therefore, I cannot have both burning packages (EZ Creator and Nero) on the same PC.
Do I have to choose between both packages?
Any suggestions?

Go on WinMX and look for Nero, I'm sure you can Find a Key-gen and a the nero software.

Thats like asking if your entitled to the same upgrade price of going from Adobe Photoshop 5.0 for _MAC_ to Adobe Photoshop 6.0 for _PC_... It doesnt work that way; your licence was for a specific burner and if you want to use NERO with another burner, you purchase a new licence. That's why NERO came with your original burner - because the manufacturer got a deal on the software because it was tailored to work with their brand only.
If you want to be free from that limitation, purchase a full retail version that is not limited to a brand of CDR (or be a cheap-ass and do what RobertSmith suggested and scam the guys @Ahead/NERO for their software by getting an illegal key). Sometimes I wish NERO would do what CDRWIN does and make your CD's into coasters when illegal keys are detected.
As for DirectCD, as long as no part of EasyCD is running (such as DirectCD) when you run NERO, NERO should work just fine. If you need to be using DirectCD then yeah, you'll probably have problems using NERO.

HillJack,
I think you missed my point.
I am not interested in scamming Nero.
Nero conflicts with Direct CD.
Nero states this during the install of Nero 5.5 demo.
If Nero did not conflict with Direct CD.....
I would use the Nero software exclusively with the drive it was bundled with;
and use EZ Creator with the other burner.
Burning SVCDs with Nero on the drive it was bundled with meets my needs.
I do not need to burn SCVDs on the ext burner too.
BUT......
I don't have this option - with the way Nero limited the software!
>>>How do you install both Nero 5.5.4.0 and Direct CD (from EZ Creator 5.0 platium) without the conflicts Nero states will occur?
And if you can't install both burner packages on the same PC, don't you have to choose *one*?

The update is free, I suggest you contact Nero and tell them about your problem, and i'm quite sure they will help you solve it, especialy since you bought v5.0

1.) What is OEM
2.) The Conflict is Between Direct CD and Nero's Packet writter. Here's what I was told:
"The conflict goes into the regestry and the system cannot decide what to do. You must remove all traces of Direct CD to get Nero to work. Their is a program that lets the two co-exist but I don't know it's name or it's location." -
I used to have that problem too but that was with Adaptec 4.0 and then installed Nero... but now it was all gone since i started using EZCD 5.0 with 5.02 upgrade and Nero 5.0.1.8 upgrade to 5.5.4.0 i didnt have any problem with the key either.. if u want i can let u download my progs coz im sure it will solve ur problem.. I know Nero is the best for VCD burning(thats where i only use it for)and super easy functionality of EZCD like the name says it so..
BTW my email is marscable@hotmail.com thx.. cheers

I want to thank everyone for their suggestions and comments.
Here is a status update:
1. Nero sales advises that the free upgrade from "Nero 5.0.4.6 OEM to 5.5.4.0" only applies to the specific burner
it was bundled with. If I want to use another burner, I need to pay them $49 for a full edition.
The $19 upgrade option only applies to upgrading from Nero 4 to Nero 5.5.
2. They advise that I should install EZ Creator - without CDDirect - to avoid conflicts between Creator 5 Platium and Nero 5.5.4.0.
So I must decide what to do:
I can pay them for a serial number and use Nero exclusively..... or
I can stay with Creator 5 Platium (and sacrifice burning SVCDs).
I need CDDirect. Therefore, installing both products on the same PC is not an option.
Any further comments or suggestions? -
i had the same problem, so i uninstalled both...deleted everything the uninstall could not remove (ezcd folders)
then i installed nero & upgrades first, and ezcd afterwards
i've had no problems since
hope this helps
cddirect is always running on my system with no conflicts
