  1. I have a VCD on a 650mb cd. Within this CD is .dat file which i want to copy onto another cd so that I can play it in my DVD player.

However the .dat file is bigger than 650mb so it won't let me copy as it says the file is bigger than the free space available (650mb).

Can anyone help me and tell me what I am doing wrong?

    Advanced Thanks.

In order to get the file to play in a DVD player you need to burn the .dat file as a video CD. When you do this it shouldn't matter what the size is but the length of the movie. On a 650 Mb 74 min CD you can fit about 74 minutes of video even if the .dat file is larger than 650 Mb.

  3. Are there any good free tools around which I can use as I don't think my current copying package has a burn as VCD option?

Nero is a great burning tool that you can download a free version of in the tools section of this forum. There are also great directions for using Nero in the How To section of the forum.

You can convert the :dat file into an .mpg file with vcdgear and then use vcdimager to create an image of a vcd you can burn with a lot of burning tools

Why are you copying and converting and burning a .DAT file to play in your DVD player? It seems to me as if you already have a VCD in your hands. Put it in your player and play it!

AntnyMD - Some dvd players will not play homemade vcds. I have a Sony DVP-S360 dvd player and it will not play cdrs. I have to make a cdrw vcd if I want movies or music to be playable on my dvd player.

  8. then you can use Nero to do a disc to disc copy. You will have a copy of your VCD which is also a new VCD itself.
