  1. I have only been at this about a month and have a general question. When I first started I would just load the correct template into TMPGE and be on my way. Then I read that you cant just do that so I started using dvd2svcd as it was an all in one program. My question(finally), is it better for the casual user to learn each of the programs seperately to have more control.
    Thanks

Only one person can truly answer this question and that is you. Many of the 'all in one' solutions provide all that is needed for many people most of the time but when difficulties arise they can let you down. How much you want to learn about individual programs, their capabilities and settings etc is down to you, what you want to achieve and how much effort you are prepared to put in to achieve the desired result.

  3. I found DVD2SVCD to be extremely useful, not for its output ( I own very few DVDs) but for studying the log file and getting an education about how the various programs were used, and why. It also showed me the way to deal with hi-bitrate MPEG2 captures as opposed to AVI.

It is a great all-in-one solution. As to the degree of detail to which you want to get involved, as mentioned, that is up to you.
