  1. trying to take this step by step-
downloaded some videos from kazaa, they are
mpg files, then burned them from hp's program
that came w/dvd writer, i burned them on a dvd+rw,
after reviewing this site i bought an apex 1500 since
it seemed to play "most anything" took home this
    dvd and it wouldn't play.

what do i have to do to files i download from kazaa
before i burn them on my dvd+r or dvd+rw so they
will play in my dvd player?

    thanks a bunch.

  2. They have to be authored for DVD, see the how to author guides. They also need to be within DVD specs, which if they are downloads from kazaa they almost certainly aren't. You can burn VCD compliant files to DVD as long as you increase the audio sample rate from 44.1KHz to 48KHz

  3. so far i have downloaded these type of files from
kazaa, mpg-mpeg-and divx, does this mean i
cannot convert these and burn any of them, and play
    them in my home dvd?

what if i burned the mpg files on cd-r, would this
be possible to play in my home dvd player?

    thanks

Yes you can convert them and play them in your DVD player (providing it is VCD and CDR compatible if you want to create VCD, or DVD
+r compatible if you want to create DVD), like I said read the how to convert, and author guides.

If they are mpeg, then there is a chance that they are VCD compliant mpeg, although this isn't always the case. Use Nero and select create VCD, then drag your mpeg file across. Nero will check it for compliancy, if it is not compliant nero will give a warning you can select to ignore this and create an XVCD which may or may not work in your DVD player. If nero gives no warning this means the file is already VCD compliant and you can burn it as a VCD.

Whether you are creating VCD, SVCD or DVD the discs need to be authored as such. You cant just burn video files as data to your media and expect it to play in your DVD player.

this is what my dvd player is, so if you had a dvd writer on your computer
and took files from kazaa, at this point i'm starting first with music videos then will go to movies etc...
so if you had this what would be your next step after your files have been
downloaded from kazaa, knowing what my home machine is and i have an
hp dvd writer at work that burns on dvd+r and dvd+rw?
thanks didn't mean to post twice i'm just confused
