My restoration of The Letter (1929) is finally complete. Damn, that was a lot of work!
No doubt I could have done some things differently, but it was a learning experience so things I started off doing one way, in retrospect I would have done in another.
Just a quick note and "Thank You!" to everyone who contributed with advice and constructive critiques!
If anyone is interested in a little side by side comparison, I would welcome any suggestions for future endeavors.

For the record, the processes I used on this were:
--deflicker
--spot removal
--descratch
--stabilization
--brightness and contrast
--upscaling
Best,
Joe

I like the spot/noise and flicker removal in general.
Too much sharpening for my taste.
Edges seem too sharp to be natural.

Also when the actors move all the sharpening is gone, which makes the sharpnes even move unnatural.
Since the horizontal black lines seem to be rather stable I would replace them with interpolations. (or inpainting)
Same person, changes quite a bit:

(especially the eyes)
You used some diffusion model, right?

Looks nice. Much more watchable. You even got rid of some of those nitrate stains on the left side of the frame.

I don't want to sound like a stick in the mud, but saying you used XXX and and then showing us the result without saying how you did it is of limited value to those of us interested in restoration but lacking in knowledge of how to actually do it.
