    Hello everyone

I am trying to extract direct video stream links from the Abyss web player to use with abyss-dl.jar (from the GitHub project AbyssVideoDownloader).

However, some hosting sites that use the Abyss player have anti-debugging protection that blocks right-clicking and the F12 key / Developer Tools. Currently, the only working method I have to capture links and download videos from Abyss is by using a browser extension like Max Video Downloader, which gives me a link formatted like this: abyss:31512888:XBtWgL_7v.

I have tested almost every downloader extension available on Chrome, but Max Video Downloader is the only one that can detect and capture the video link from this site. I believe this site has a very tough protection system in place.

I would like to learn how to find or extract these links manually without relying solely on browser extensions. Are there any alternative techniques or methods to inspect network traffic or bypass the F12 block?

Any suggestions or technical guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Have you got access to a website called google.com ?

If so, type in the search bar "how to bypass the F12 block on websites"

Thanks for the incredibly helpful advice. I’ve already spent the entire day running commands and researching this, trying to extract the actual video stream URL from a site that actively blocks access to it. If a simple Google search had solved the problem, I wouldn’t have needed to ask here in the first place. But thanks anyway.

  4. Recently I face the same issue and solve it with AI Agent.

First you can start to play the video on the page and use F12 in Google Chrome, then use the "Network" tab, and find records that includes "player.abyssplayer.com".

After that you can find "Referer" record in that request, and you will find the full URL, for example, your video will be "https://player.abyssplayer.com/XBtWgL_7v", the name is "Clevatess II เคลวาเทส อสูรจอมราชัน ภาค 2 ตอนที่ 02 พากย์ไทย.mp4 — 1080p(478.6 MB)" right?

Then you should use your AI Agent(you can use free ones like opencode), ask it to access "abyss-dl.jar (from the GitHub project AbyssVideoDownloader)", then tell it the new URL start with "https://player.abyssplayer.com/". It will help you to build a new downloader.

    Hope it helps. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion! That's really interesting. I've actually used AbyssVideoDownloader before, but the GitHub project doesn't really explain how to find the video URL. That's why I've been trying to figure out the streaming structure of this website myself.

I've spent quite a bit of time looking through and decoding its JavaScript files, including `anime-v2-stage3.js`, `base.js`, and some of the player scripts. Eventually, I managed to find the HLS master playlist URL hidden in the JavaScript. **[URL REDACTED]**

I also tried opening it with yt-dlp, but its Generic Extractor couldn't quite figure out what it was. So I started investigating it manually with curl and found out that it was actually an HLS master playlist, even though the server labels it as `text/plain`.

From there, I followed the playlist to the 1080p stream and found something pretty unusual: the video segments all have `.webp` extensions instead of the usual `.ts` files. I tried checking the playlist with FFprobe, but FFmpeg rejected those segment URLs because `.webp` isn't included in its default list of allowed HLS segment extensions.

So now I'm trying to figure out what those `.webp` files actually contain and how the whole thing is put together. It's been quite a rabbit hole!

I've also been using an AI web chat assistant to help me with all this. Even with AI helping out, it's still pretty challenging for me to understand everything and figure out what to try next.

Honestly, after going through all this, I'm even more impressed by the people who make Chrome extensions that can detect video streams and download them so effortlessly. I really admire the work that goes into making those tools. Haha!

Anyway, just wanted to share what I've been working on. Thanks again for sharing your experience

  6. My AI Agent wrote a document with detail flow explanation(attached in this post, the main logic comes from the project AbyssVideoDownloader, and it use the file in your top post as a sample - XBtWgL_7v), you can send this document to your web AI Assistant for better understanding. Maybe it can help you to move forward.
