Hello,
I installed a 60 gig IBM deskstar in my cap system and when I play back any caps static is added to the audio. I tried a clean reinstall, but still the same thing. I put a Maxtor 40 gig and tried again, no more static. Anyone else had this trouble??? Here are my system specs:
Athlon 1 gig
384 Meg PC133
Currently Maxtor 40 gig ATA 100
ATI AIW Radeon
Win2k usin NTFS

You don't say what type of IDE controller (or chipset) is being used. So, let's assume your system is using a regular IDE type driver.
Windows 2000 doesn't support ATA100 and the higher DMA rates until you install Service Pack 2. It's possible your IBM drives were running in PIO mode instead of DMA, which could lead to cutouts in sound due to interrupted data flow.
SP2 is a free download from Microsoft. If you want to download a file that you can reinstall again later, look for the Network install version which is a little over 100MB.
After installing SP2, check the advanced settings tab on the properties window for your primary and secondary ide controllers in device manager. There it should show that Ultra DMA mode is enabled and running.
