  1. Hi I have this old family wedding that I've captured using the following setup:
    JVC S7600 - Panasonic DMR - ES15 - Hauppauge USB-Live 2.

Not sure if the overall capture can be improved with different settings. The capture settings were all default. USB Live 2 drivers are: 6.119.0.36075

The quality of VHS isn't great. Here is a short clip:

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

  2. Is it from an EP and/or dubbed tape?
The capture is probably as good as it can get from this tape: Low details and poor "colors" which you may address in post processing (e.g. lower the saturation, adjust the white balance ...).
There are a few glitches which you may want to substitute by motion interpolated frames from adjacent healthy frames.

  4. Yes, I agree with Sharc: it looks like either a copy or EP. Details have disappeared.

I keep hoping that AI can some day provide some help for video like this, but I don't think anything is yet available. Hang on to your capture for a few years and perhaps you can do something then.

  5. Thanks Sharc & Johnmeyer!

For now what will be a good enough Avisynth script for Deinterlacing and color adjustments and maybe improving picture quality if possible?

  6. The couple things that you might be able to improve is possible white/black clipping depending on whether that's baked into the source or not, though you'd need to do a recapture and use a proc amp or adjust your capture settings potentially, though the histogram or a vectorscope would probably give you better information about that. You might also try doing without the ES15 inline and seeing if you get any clearer results by just using the internal TBC of the 7600.

The S7600 has TBC, right? Then get rid of the Panasonic, it'll only make things worse.

The transfer itself looks OK. The image quality is typical of tapes from that region; I've seen worse
