  1. Trying to track down a problem with my capturing and someone suggested better S-Video cables.

Can't run down to Circuit City and buy some new Monster Cables in 2025.

Any reliable name brands on Amazon?

    Don't use longer than 1m (~3 feet)

Good luck with your TBC experiments.

There’re Bluejean cables https://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/svideo/index.htm. Blue Jean cables are pretty high though. I don’t notice a difference between my Panasonic Svideo cable I got from the thrift store for like 2 dollars and my Blue Jean Svideo cables. The big complaint I’ve heard with Monster cables is they are too grippy and can be rough on your gear. I’ve never tried them myself though.

  4. Extron makes S-Video to BNC cables and you know for sure that they've used proper 75 ohm double shielded (foil and braid) mini coax. You could take two of those and add whatever length 75 ohm coax cable to go between them and make yourself a nice cable. Odds are you won't be able to tell a whole lot of difference between one S-Video cable to the next, but I don't think you'll find a technically better cable option on paper anyway other than it having some extra gold plated connections that technically don't need to be there (the BNC connections). I have on occasion just made my own S-Video cables out of RGB 75ohm mini coax from Belden, but the S-video end can be kind of finicky to solder depending on your skill level. Depending on your hardware, you could also just convert your S-Video in/out connectors on the setup to BNC which will be technically higher quality and more reliable anyway, but probably also overkill and I'd be surprised if you could visibly see a difference.

Had to get a new s-video cable as goodwill was out (yes they have used high quality ones at times) from best buy. The insignia brand ones we surprisingly good and didn't exhibit any checkerboarding when capturing. Sure there is higher quality ones out there but not at any brick and mortar store.
if all else fails read the manual
