    Hello,

does cleaning an old videotape, that has no mold on it and looks matt, brings a better picture?

Yes, but it's a general question.

Good question. Here's a link to Specs Bros white paper on tape cleaning before transfer.

No it doesn't, The tape needs cleaning only if it has mold, moisture or maybe dipped in honey. The tape is spooled nothing gets on it unless a condition happened as I already mentioned.

This is your only post in this thread. Where did you "already mention" please?

As I already mentioned at the start of the post, mold, moisture, honey, baby saliva, Fairy dust ...etc.

When we say "as I already mentioned" we normally are referring to what was said at an earlier time, not in the immediately previous sentence. Perhaps English is not your first language. If so, no problem.

    No.

In fact, you can "clean" the oxide right off the tape. So it'll look vastly worse.

This is not a task to do without good reason.
