General understanding about the CDRM Project

I would like to understand how the CDRM Project (https://cdrm-project.com) works. In the FAQ it says about the website "A free and open source alternative to getwvkeys" but I cant find any repository holding it's source code.

How does a "Widevine request" look like? Could I send such a request from my local pc without the use of that website? Does this website hold some kind of secret keys in the backend to complete the task of retrieving the keys/codes? And why is it not possible to just copy the response with the (codes?) directly from the browser (developer tools) since the request to the license server is send from the browser anyway?

I just want to understand this from a technical point of view. Thank you for any clarification.
