  1. Audio works fine, menus display correctly. I used a dry headcleaning tape to no avail. Am in an unknown setting or are the heads fried?

    The DV video drum spins at 9,000 rpm. This means it turns five times for each frame, and thus makes 10 helical tracks, If one head goes bad the artifact you would get is quite similar to yours, I don't claim you got a bad video head, but most likely it is the case. Audio should be affected too but maybe it is hard to hear the stutter.
