    JaXson,

Q1: I've gotten the same error on all my ATI installs. I wouldn't worry about it. I think it's a glitch in the ATI software (there are many, as you will no doubt discover over time). Chances are you already have DMA enabled for that particular drive, and since it's a CDROM, you won't be capturing to it directly in any case. Bottom line: ignore it. It's not an issue.

Q2: I've never bothered with the Ulead software myself. From what I've read, it doesn't have a good reputation around here. YMMV.

What I use myself is VirtualDub (or VirtualVCR) for capturing, TMPEnc for MPEG encoding, and Nero for burning to VCD or SVCD. Search the forums here for info on all of these.

Q3: Sadly, I can't help much for 'easy ways' to convert to VCD. Even on the most basic level the process can be somewhat tricky and only time and extensive experimentation can really help there. You've got a good start by finding this site. There's much information to be had here if you've got the patience to do a little searching and reading on your own.

Start with some of the basic definitions (probably on the left side of your browser as we speak, near the top) and continue on through some of the various guides. Lot's of ppl have had the same questions as yourself in the past and you will fond many of the answers you seek there, or at least a good starting place for your own experimentation.

    Good luck.

I'm a newbie to this stuff 2. I also have an Athlon system with an ATI Radeon 8500 All-In-Wonder. I have tried all the software on here. At the end of the day, I only got frustrated with sound getting out of sync or blocky video. In the end I finally was able to produce very high quality XSVCD’s that was as good as the original tapes. I did take some of the advice on the forums, and there were a lot of people who gave me some good tips.

I got the process down to 4 easy steps:
(I had to buy some programs: Media Studio Pro – DVD Movie Factory.)

Step 1: Capture video in uncompressed AVI format. In VDUB or Media Studio Pro
NOTE: Capturing in MPEG format is BAD – It will make your videos look blocky.
Step 2. Edit the Video Clips

Step 3. Save the project in Media Studio Pro: MPEG2 480x480 with a VBR of 4000.
NOTE: with a VBR of 4000 you can only get about 20min of video per CD. But the quality is perfect! Also: Make sure your DVD Player can play an XSVCD. I have the RCA 5240p $100.00 and it has played everything I throw at it!
Step 4: Burn the MPEG2 file with DVD Movie Factory and make your menus and scene selections.

    Hope this helps!
