Real (?) AVI to MPEG1

My friend has downloaded the Sopranos episodes from Kazaa. The Replayer icon is in front of the file and the file ends in .avi. When we try to put the file into the video source in TMPGenc we get an error message stating that the file is unsupported. How can we convert these files so that we can burn to VCD?

Did you run the TMPGEncVFP_Install.bat

Did you you select Options/Environmental settings and make sure check marked.

gll99-thanks for the reply. We did not run the install.bat that you mentioned--please clue me in about this file.

It's a separate download that is available with tmpgenc which contains the plugins you need. Each version of tmpgenc comes with its own plugin which contains project file reader and encoder codecs but I don't know if you can mix them.

Then after you install you check to make sure they are set on ..

There should be as link on the left under other...tools.....
