The second link is about a new type of optical disc that can hold ten terabytes of data and has a lifespan of six hundred years. These things may take years to come to fruition but I do like that they are working on solutions as it is astounding how much need there is going to be for adequate storage, especially with 4K and 8K videos.

Only if it is priced competively versus other forms of storage. And unfortunately that is more a function of the uptake by consumers than anything else. I have been using DL BD-R for a while and TL has only recently come down in price enough to be a reasonable option due to UHD BD.
