I installed the drivers from and old disk, the drivers loaded fine, but when I tried to install wintv it said no hardware was found. So I downloaded the new wintv 8 for xp. It updated drivers and installed wintv, but when I open wintv, and goto the devices tab there is no device for tuner setup to start channel scanning. Everything else seems fine. Any help would be nice, thanks...

Remove the installation disc. Uninstall WinTV 8 and run HCWCLEAR. Shut down the PC. Make sure that the WinTV-HVR-1255 is securely seated in its slot. Reboot the PC with the WinTV-HVR-1255 installed. After a reboot you should see the Found New Hardware Wizard installation message, hit Cancel. Insert the installation disc and re-install the drivers and WinTV. [Edit]Clarification--The installation disc must be in the drive, but you will be installing WinTV and the drivers from your download.

Followed each step twice. Still no device in tuner setup of wintv. Also, tried removing everything a third time using hcwclear, and just using the installation disk.

Now, note this, when drivers are finished installing doing it both ways, I get a notification saying the hardware didn't properly install and there might be problems. In hardware manager it looks fine, and says the device is working properly. Also, when I use erase channel database, it shuts down hauppauge tv server, starts wintv, and gives me a notification saying the device couldn't start, and to check to see if it's disabled. In control panel, admin tools, services, the device is set to run automatically, it's not disabled.

One last note, may not be related. I only recently started having issues, and I noticed something happening about sametime. Somethings I do report that the RPC server is unavailable.

Should I remove the card, restart computer, and then shut down, and reinstall it? Or possibly even reinstall windows?

Considered finding a channel database online that held all possible frequencys, and going through one by one deleting the ones that had no signal, but I cannot seem to find a database.

Ok, I have it fixed. Apparently the RPC was required for installing the drivers. I uninstalled everything having to do with the tv tuner, and removed the card from the computer. Then reinstalled windows over my existing windows, no formatting. Then reinstalled the card, and drivers. Everything works just fine now. Anyways, thanks for the response, your reply did actually help me get to where I needed to be.

Well, that saves me from telling you to try a repair install of windows and the other things that you did. I'm glad the HVR-1255 card is working again.
