I'm testing the demo right now.
Download the Panasonic MPEG2 demo from here http://pdn.securethink.co.jp/en/product/fset_J13.html -
Baldrick: What's results of the test so far?
Is it any good quality wise?
Does the quality compare with CCE for mpg2 and the original panasonic
encoder for mpg 1?
Can you frameserve via virtual dub and Avi Synth to it?
Regards

It doesnt work that well. It crashes in winxp sp1 when I encode an indeo video 5 avi file. I'm now trying in win2k compatibility mode. It is very slow also...
-
Hmmm...not the results i was expecting...I'll have to download the demo
later when i'm at home and try it on win98se...
Waylander -
I can't download the demo with opera 6.5.
Only IE5-6 looks to work -
Hhmmm, hard to download and crashes alot... sounds like they may have ATI doing their quality control.
We'll keep watching to see how it turns out. Always interested in a new MPG2 codec."Do not interfere in the affairs of dragons
...for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!" -
Anyone manage to get VBR working yet ? That, and therefore 2Pass are greyed out on mine.
-
Jeeze is this crash happy or what.
- XP without SP1
- divide by zero error
At least Panasonic's old encoder is still great for VCD's.
@ SimonH, the video stream option you choose at the start
affects if you have access to VBR or not. -
Under Win XP without SP1 all ok & no crashes seems 100% stable.
Just done 2 1 minute samples MP2 2pass VBR at Various Bitrates, waiting for Tmpgenc to finish then IŽll do a comparision on the TV..
Its definitely slower than Tmpgenc. -
i cant get it so far to finsh anything before crash-- soon as i do ill post comparisons with others ... .
-
I tried the encoder yesterday (Under Win2K standard setup from DV to SVCD (PAL): no crashes but took about 45min for the 3 min demo)This is rather slow, compared to tmpgenc (12 min) or ULEAD (9 min) with the same setup.
Quality is quite good, but IMHO not outstanding.
I think, it's not worth the price. -
Did a comparision with Tmpgenc & Panasonic
Two x 1 minute samples MP2 2pass VBR.
The colours in Panasonic were all washed out+ panasonic is damm slow.
I can post the samples if someone has some web space/interested.
2x 20mb(av 2500 ) + 2 x 26mb(av 3500). Both 1min samples from Shaft. -
well with all the crashes it is obvious that this program has a few bugs. i'll stick with tmpg
-
I wonder, why did they publish this encoder and why it took so long?
Qualtiywise not good, very slow in encoding, very expensive and I don't know about compatibilty. -
Has anyone tested the MPEG-1 encoding?
Regards.Michael Tam
