I'm recording from TV with my comp to Divx 5. I convert it with TGMPEcn 1.58 to MPEG1 and burn to VCD with Nero 5.5.9.9. But when i play it on my Sampo DVD player (supports VCDs and macro free), it's all garbled and unwatchable. Any clue what could be wrong? I've tried it with 3 different types of CDRW, i know CDRW works on this DVD player.

Why are you capturing to divx? divx is lossy,(loses data) then you compress it again to an mpeg. twice you lose quality.
to get the best quality you should capture with huffy or picvideo mjpeg at best quality then encode to vcd. I "almost" guarantee you final version will play on your TV ALOT better!!"The software said Win XP or better, so I Installed Linux" -

I have a Sampo stand alone player also.
Try a good quality cd-r blank. (Inexpensive media are not worth it)
Burn at a slower speed. (I burn at either 4x or 2x)
Poor media and faster burn speeds gave me the same bad reults you are getting.
Hope it helps!

I'm curious, what are these programs, "huffy or picvideo mjpeg" and where can I find them to try them out?
Thanks
