After using DVD2SVCD to create my mpeg2 files I realised that I had to use the header trick to play them on my DVD player. However when I play them the picture and sound is very jerky and not at all watchable. I have been burner the mpeg files with Nero. Also the picture has the Cinema Craft Encoder logo at the bottom. Can someone help me? Is it possible to convert my standalone DVD player to play actual SVCDs without the header trick?

Im by no means an expert , but i think it could be one of 2 things.
either the wrong field order was chosen or 2nd and more likely
it is a ntscfilm so you need to select that template and use the 3:2 pulldown on playback option.
