  1. In the good old days i put all my home videos on DVD (video ts) they were i think converted from mov to this (dont think this matters)
now i have a sony tv 55" bravia something or other that has usb and plays most files so i cant be bothered with the loading of dvds and want to put them back to mp4 which the tv will play through a pendrive.

should have just said video_ts to mp4 lol

what is the best program to do this (please i dont want to be flaffing around changing aspects or audio or and individual settings)
tell me easiest best free program and easiest paid program

they will have no protection on them so should this make a difference to speed of converting

DVD to MP4 converters usually re-encode DVD video to H.264 video and AAC audio. Your home movies have already gone through one lossy encode from H.264 MOV files to MPEG-2 on DVD, so you might wish to avoid re-encoding again if your TV can play something other than mp4 files and file size is not a huge concern. The conversion process is also faster if you can just change containers without re-encoding.

If your TV plays MKV files, you can avoid re-encoding your home movies by using MakeMKV to convert from DVD to MKV. MakeMKV will always be free for DVD and it is simple to use as well as fast.

  3. See if your TV will play the video in this post:

    https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/360520-Remux-a-DVD-%28vob%29-to-mp4-for-AppleTV?p=2...=1#post2284163

If so, you can quickly remux your DVDs to MP4 and avoid any reencoding.

  4. MakeMKV is excellent.
Or you could try using HANDBRAKE. Free, works well. Does H264 and H265 if you want. Copy the DVD to your hard drive first, it's just easier, then using Handbrake open the VIDEO_TS folder.
