Does anyone know of a stand-alone MP3 player (like the iPod or so), that can play MP3 files ?
I do have an older HTC smartphone, but this can't play .TS files.

If not, is there a fast tool that converts .TS files to MP3?
For the moment I am using VLC Media Player, but for conversion purposes this is really slow.

I want to record radio with a satellite dish (2 hours or so), and then play that back in my car or at my job place (with headphones).
It is not allowed to use the PC for that.

  2. Any device that'll allow installing software should play TS files with an appropriate player. ie something Android based. Do you have an Android phone?

It shouldn't be too hard to convert the audio in a ts file to MP3, or take very long, but it might depend on the type of audio it contains.

As a quick test I remuxed the AC3 audio from a 25 minute mkv as an mka file with MKVMergeGUI, so I could open it with foobar2000. That took about two seconds. MKVMergeGUI can also open TS files so you can remux the audio as an mka the same way. Converting the mka to MP3 with foobar2000 took 40 seconds using my old PC.

  3. Try remuxing the TS file to an MP4 file.

Audacity with the ffmpeg source plugin can import the audio from a TS file and export as an MP3 file.

At first I installed Audacity, and with this program it takes about 15 minutes to convert a 2 hour radio .TS file.
I tried again installing MX Player on my smartphone.
The first time it had said there was not enough memory to install the necessary codecs.
This time it worked, and now I can play them directly on the smartphone.
