Hello all,
As the title suggests, when I play some homemade video files on my computer, the audio will start, but then immediately fade until no sound is heard at all. The problem doesn't appear to be related to a certain type of file extension as it occurs on all types, .mpg, .mp4, .mov, and .avi.
Furthermore, more recent movie files seem to work without a glitch, all system and game sounds/music play, and as do all online Flash media.
I'm running off of a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium Edition for Alienware and I have downloaded/installed all relevant updates/drivers.
What I have done Thus Far:
- Uninstalled/Re-installed audio drivers
- Transferred files to another computer and confirmed that they run fine with sound. I could even stream from the problem computer to another computer with full audio.
- Tried different fully updated playback software such as DivX, WMP, Quicktime, RealPlayer, and an vlc player, to no avail.
In short, the problem appears to be isolated to the one computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried vlc media player? It has built in decoders.
