  1. So I'm helping somebody convert and clip their ripped DVDs with Avidemux. They say that the audio starts playing just fine, but then after a while there isn't any audio. They tell me they have a 64-bit system and installed the 64-bit Avidemux.

One possible solution I found online was changing the AudioDevice from Dummy to Win32 or Win64, but when they go to the Preferences and go to change at the AudioDevice it says Win32.

Any ideas on why the audio would be cutting out? Any solutions?

They're using TDMore Free DVD Copy to rip their discs.

If they are using that TDMore thing it is copying the entire disc(so it says).
Use something else to rip/copy, or run the copy through something else and strip it down to Main Movie and one, single language.

  3. I'll suggest they use a different dvd ripper/copier/decrypter. Any easy to use, top notch suggestions? I was thinking of suggesting DVDSmith Movie Backup, but I don't know if there's a better suggestion. I've heard of DVD Decrypter before, but if it's no longer developed will it be able to rip newer DVDs without problems? Does it matter if they're ripping region 2 (Japanese) DVDs?

Could their system being a 64-bit system and Avidemux's AudioDevice saying Win32 have anything to do with it?

Too many variables, we'd need more info or we'd just be throwing guesses around and airing our personal prejudices.

  5. This is what they wrote to me:

That concert DVD I ripped stops playing audio halfway through.
This is in the Avidemux window. So when I went to clip the Medley the video was fine but there was no sound.
I then let the ENTIRE concert play in real time and the sound was there for all of it, so I set my A and B markers then but again, when I watched the clipped section the sound was gone again.
When I went back into the ripped DVD file in the Avidemux window the sound was gone again.
I ripped it again a second time hoping this would resolve any hiccups but same problem.
It starts off fine, then about 30 minutes into the concert no sound.
Thet told me they had a 64-bit system when they looked at their computer properties and so I had them install the 64-bit Avidemux. Initially they tried the 32-bit Avidemux, but nothing would load when selecting any .vob files.

They used TDMore Free DVD Copy to rip their DVDs to VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders.

That plus what I've already mentioned is all the information I have so far. If there's anything specific please tell me so I can ask them. I'd really like to help them resolve this issue.

For one thing 32 bit AVIDemux should work fine in 64 bit windows, in fact last time I checked the 32 bit version was the more stable of the two.

How many vob files are they actually loading into AVIDemux at a time? How many vob files are there in the directory?

Not that it really matters, they shouldn't be targeting vob files directly anyway. If the goal is to load the file into AVIDemux, MakeMKV it first.

  7. Thank you a lot for all the suggestions! Apparently the problem was the decrypter. After trying the suggestions mentioned here they got it to work. Now we just need to figure out how to fix the wavy when there's fast motion video, but that's a problem for another day. I'm done for now.

I know I wasn't able to give much info, but thank you a lot all the same.

I recently ripped a disc that dvd decrypter couldn't rip and neither could Makemkv. But Freemake was able to rip it. ( I think it it got lucky) And no it it wasn't a new disc. But a week later I tried it with a new drive. A cheap LG from Microcenter. And no problems from any decrypter. That's when I realized that the usb dvd drive I was previously using sucked. So don't always blame the "ripper" {cue the song} but try different drives if possible.
