    I would like to rip DVDs to a USB harddrive and play the ripped content on a portable DVD player via the USB harddrive.

    I have a Philips dvd player that not only plays xvid/divx via usb but it has an sd card slot too. Does very well. Don't remember the exact model but I remember seeing it in a 7 inch and 9 inch models. I have the 7 inch model and it works fine. Screen is quite watchable. Came with car kit and battery... but the battery lasts about 2.5 hours. I don't care cuz I always have it plugged into wall or car or rv 12volt. It doesn't draw too much from the rv.
