Times change. Now all the major manufacturers make it difficult to unlock their players. Even Philips and maybe 5 or more years ago, even in the USA/Canada it was almost impossible to find a Philips DVD player that couldn't be unlocked. Now it's getting harder to find ones that can be unlocked. Many DVD and BD players today cannot ever be unlocked. The days of "Just buy anything you see and unlock it later" are gone. Now you have to do a lot of research and be very sure before buying that you'll be able to unlock any player you buy after you buy it. It's probably just safer to buy players from businesses who are in the market as sellers of unlocked players and they guarantee the players they sell will unlock.
