after already making a decent vcd, can i re-compress the mpeg file, so that it takes up hardly any space on my hard drive? not worried about viewing quality on pc, just want to keep for back-up in case (god forbid) something should happen to my vcd's. PLEASE HELP!!!!

not really much smaller ... compressing max compression with ace or rar compression will not make it much smaller as its already a compressed format .. you could re-encode to a smaller bit rate or size to make it smaller -- but that not really a back up .. buy a 120gig hard drive or two or burn 2 copies instead of one.
