Our soccer team's parents are looking for a way to share the photos (and maybe videos) we take of the kids. We've been using facebook, but we're looking for a better way to upload and store a large number of files at full resolution, where any other parent can download the file(s) they like. It needs to be something group or membership -based, with privacy and security via logins. Here are some options I'm looking into, but I'd welcome any advice or suggestions:

    - Flickr
    - Shutterfly
    - Our own Wordpress site (I have my own web server, bandwidth and storage space for the files, but I don't know if there are free photo gallery wordpress modules that are easy to use...dealing with nontechnical parents here. This would be a good option to host a team calendar too)

    Thanks!

  2. For photos, either of the first two that you mentioned in your post are OK. For videos, Youtube or Vimeo.

  3. I'm a professional photographer and I use flickr. You do have to make sure you set it up so the photos are made public so anyone can see them.

It's been six years since I visited and posted on this site. I'm glad my user name wasn't removed because I have questions of my own for the forum.

Thanks for the replies. Flickr has a monthly upload limit for the free accounts. For either Flickr or Shutterfly, I need to figure out if UserAccountA and UserAccountB (etc.) can both upload to the same group/folder/album/photostream, or if I'd need to create one account username and password for all the parents share.

  5. OK, here's another thought. How about uploading the photos to a cloud service. Maybe SkyDrive or other. Then use the sharing function for those that you would allow to download the photos. Not as good as Flickr as they would have to download photo first I believe. I'll have to check out SkyDrive and see if it allows a person to view the photo before downloading it.

Just checked my account at SkyDrive and yes it allows you to view photos before downloading them. 5 Gigs free.
