  1. i usually use mmc to capture and have no frame loss.
i just got vdub set up and captured *mothman prophecies* which is about 2 hours long and had a drop of 116 frames. is that good or bad? i would rather 0 frames be dropped.

  2. I usually don't worry if I drop a few dozen frames at the very start of a capture.
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

I never have any frame drop after I change to a larger and faster hard drive. Now for me, "normal" is no frame drop at all.

  4. 116 frames seems excessive unless they're all at the beginning.

AVI_IO seems to work well for me. I've dedicated a partition on my hard drive just for capture so I can always have non-fragmented & sector aligned captures. If I'm capturing from satellite I get usually 0 - 2 drops per movie (usually 0). If capturing from less stable source (say older VHS tape) I've had as much as 15. Both my capture resolutions (480x480 & 720x480) perform identically.

  5. i use mmc to capture avi using huff codec with no drops. i guess i just dont have settings set right for vdub. but i must say i dont always get fram drops just occastionally with vdub. anywho i will stick to mmc cause i get just as good quality as with vdub and i guess thats what counts. only reason i used vdub is because i was told by tons of people not to use mmc cause it sucks. oh well i guess im one of the lucky ones it works flawless for.

thanks for the replys guys!! kudos

    Hey . . .

Yup - "0" is normal for me as well . . . I use VirtualVCR to capture to svcd format, and tmpgenc to encode.

I've been able to do NTSC VHS video --> PAL vcd's for other aussies who post on this board, so I figure everything is (finally) working as it should do!!

    Cheers,

    B.
