I've got a 4 year old Sony RDR-VXD655 VCR/DVD recorder that's developing a skipping/freezing problem during commercial DVD playbacks. Basically, it starts to freeze during the first 10 minutes of playback, then will intermittently skip, and fast forward through the movie and occassionally stop altogether. I originally figured a dirty lens, so I used an ALLSOP DVD cleaning disk with no luck. I then took the case off, and manually cleaned the lens with Isopropyl Alcohol. Tried one of the DVD's previously used and got through with no problems other than one slight stutter. Tried a new disk the next day, and the skipping and freezing started up again. It's in a well ventilated area, and it happens when the unit hasn't been on for a while (trying to eliminate overheating as a cause). Wondering if anyone has any ideas about what it may be, or give any insight? Thanks in advance.
