I want a hardware knob I can turn left & right that will slowly scrub the windows media player video timeline.

    Programmable buttons wouldn't hurt either.

Scrubbing is generally done in video editors, I dont't see this be avaiable for WMP. Why would you need this functionality in a media player?

You can try virtual dub, it allows you to scrub the video frame by frame.
Murphy's law taught me everything I know.

  3. You could try something here (http://na.suzohapp.com/amusement/gameparts/95265700.htm). They are made for video games, but I am sure you could configure it for use within your video editor. But you probably didn't want to build your own though...

You do know the scroll wheel on the mouse scrubs through the video in Virtual Dub, right? Maybe there is a way to configure that to work in other video editors too.

    Maybe this:

    Logitech Nulooq

My son's orthodontist has one of these on the desk for patient checkin. They spin until their name is highlighted, then press down on the spinner to select their name. And it lights up blue underneath.

There is a company called Bella Corporation that makes exactly that, but only for stuff like Premiere or Final Cut.
For the nth time, with the possible exception of certain Intel processors, I don't have/ever owned anything whose name starts with "i".

It sounds to me like you want a new piece of hardware. I can't believe no one has recommended the Contour Shuttle Pro. I bought mine 6 or 7 years ago and can't imagine this hobby without it. I'd recommend it to anybody who has space on their table-top. It just feels natural once you tune the drivers to the correct scrubbing speeds for each program. I will often use it to scroll down web pages in leiu of the mouse wheel. Check it out at the link below:

Edit: I just realized that Darryl linked to a slightly different Contour Design device at Amazon. I would assume it would work just as well, just with less programable buttons. Still highly recommended.
