Hi
I have a mac mini which I have been successfully using to archive kids programs from my Virgin V+ Box. I have been using the Elgato Video Capture device. This has been great but recently I started having problems with the software - think it didn't like me having other USB devices plugged in at the same time. Anyway, I wanted to branch out into recording something other than cartoons and was finding the max 640x480 of the Elgato a bit limiting.
I therefore did some research and bought myself a Haupage HD PVR. As I am Mac based I also bought a 3rd party piece of software called HDPVR.
I had a scart to component adapter in my box of tricks and plugged this into the the V+ box and connected the supplied cables to the Haupage PVR - no signal detected.
So, I gave this a go: I ran a Scart cable out of the V+ Box and into a DVD recorder which had component out on the back. Connecting the Haupage up to this and also using the RCA audio out worked a treat. I just had to select the correct AV channel on the DVD recorder.
But.... what if I want to go directly from the V+ to the Haupage PVR?
There appear to be these alternatives:
1. Buy another scart to component adapter and assume my old one (which didn't have too many pins) wasn't up to the job.
If I do this I will not be getting any audio and there isn't any standard audio out on the V+ box. There is, however, a digital audio out but is this operative when archiving from the V+ box (don't want to buy an expensive cable to find out LOL).
2. Buy a scart to 5 RCA cable like this:

Anyone have any experiences they can share?

Are your recordings from the V+ box in HD ?. If they are then by using a scart to connect to any other equipment surely they have now been down-graded to SD.
The hauppuage box has component inputs ? Surely you can just run 5 cables from the V+ to that.
