Mine would have to be the first movie followed by the third one.

I agree with johns0, although I love 'em all. I tried showing them to my wife, but we only got through the first three. Women!!

I liked the original movie, and saw the rest as well, but did not find them to be as enjoyable. I would not bother to see any of the original series again today, and I don't plan to watch the new series,

Maybe the new one.
I will see that one when the BR is avail.
The first one was okay since it was the first and was different.
After that since I knew what to expect, it was all downhill for me.
I've seen snippets of some of them when they were on TV but I wouldn't think of even renting one of them.
Oh, by the way... you forgot to include the Xrated version. I haven't seen that either, but it must be better than most of the others that were included.

First one, by far. I saw it in the theater when it came out.
It was utterly unlike anything I'd seen before. Hard to explain if you weren't alive then. Anyway, it's held up rather well I think.Pull! Bang! Darn! -

"Take your stinking paws off me you damn dirty ape!"
The 1968 original is my favorite, Charlton Heston's "mate"(Linda Harrison) was also pretty hot. -
"Escape" is a sentimental favorite- the first one my parents took me to see in a theater. Still think it has the best Kim Hunter and Roddy McD performances in the series, and the double-reverse-time-travel plot has been imitated many times since. Any movie featuring Hans Gudegast aka Eric Braeden as the villain is always worth a look: he's amazingly evil.
The first "Apes" is interesting but a little dull from todays perspective, and Charlton is polarizing: you either love him in this or he grates on your nerves (agreed Linda Harrison is a huge plus). "Beneath" is hilariously bad (but fun), "Escape" is tricky to follow and overly emotional but very engaging, and the final films setting up the ape takeover feature Roddy at his best: he works that clumsy makeup into more sly expressions than you would believe possible. The reboot was Tim Burton at his worst: awful. The new one looks intriguing, its on my list to see.Last edited by orsetto; 12th Sep 2011 at 14:00.

I have never seen one in its entirety. At most a two minute clip on some show about movies. Thats about it.
I guess its just something I've never had an interest in checking out.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
I've seen none of them. It never interested me at all. Actually those apes are scarey lookin!

I think you can rate the original 5-movie series in descending order - Planet/Beneath/Escape/Conflict/Battle. They are all good, but it peaks with Planet, the very first. The Tim Burton one doesn't even rate a mention. That last one was "ok".
(EDIT: Of course, that most recent one has nothing to do with the original classic five. It's its own entity.)Last edited by chowmein; 13th Sep 2011 at 03:31.

We did a POTA mini-film-festival once. The distributor sent us 16 MM Scope prints and we didn't have a Cinemascope lens for the 16. Showed them anyway and skinny tall apes were a hit...

I didn't really like any of them.
In fact, I'd like a refund on my time for most of them.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

It's very difficult because I liked all of them. Anyway for the love of the poll I would say the first.
